Book: Hell Yeah or No, “Make Things Happen” by Derek Sivers

The Goal of This Post

To share bold ideas from the book Hell Yeah or No, by Derek Sivers; on how to live a meaningful and intentional life.

Part 3: Make Things Happen

1. There’s No Speed Limit.

  • “The standard pace is for chumps”.
  • If you’re more driven than most people, you can do way more than anyone expects.

Outpace.

2. Relax for the Same Result

  • Try dialing back your effort by 50 percent.
  • It’s amazing how often everything gets done just as well and just as fast.

Dial Down.

3. Disconnect

  • Silence is a great canvas for your thoughts.
  • The vacuum helps turn all of your inputs into outputs.
  • The lack of interruption helps you flow.

Focus.

4. There Are Always More Than Two Options

  • When people say they only have two options, it means they got stuck.
  • They start comparing the pros and cons of those two, and forget to think of more.

Great insight comes only from opening your mind to many options.

5. Think Long Term

  • You can do everything you want to do. You just need foresight and patience.
  • Focus on one thing at a time, knowing you can do the other stuff afterwards.

Most people overestimate what they can do in one year, and underestimate what they can do in ten years.
